COSMIC FLASH DANCE
Words And Music By Rick Quarles
Copyright 2009 Rick Quarles
[INTRO]

Gazing at the stars at night___ looks so peaceful from below__
Blinking to a universal rhythm_ distant galaxies light show__
Supernova, quasars, solar flares, pulsars, and nebula__ light up the vast dark space__
Comets travel near and far__ leaving trails of ice in their place__

The Hubble Telescope snaps pictures__ a visual storybook lets us see __
The constant state of flux__ of galaxies that die or come to be ___
The universe is expanding__ we don’t really know how or why__
For ages mankind has wondered____ as we’ve studied the nighttime sky__

[CHORUS]
There’s a constant kind of motion __ and energy happening every day__
A celestial navigation______ through a sparkling wonderland display_____
Although there is no music__ just look deeper than first glance__
There’s rhythmic illumination everywhere__ doing a cosmic flash dance__

[BRIDGE]
Spiral type galaxies__ are up there spinning all around__
Elliptical and irregular galaxies__ constantly in motion without a sound__
Galactic clusters are groups of galaxies__ so large they’re easily found__
With powerful telescopes on mountaintops__ some can even be seen from the ground__

[BREAK]
[REPEAT INTRO]

Stars are bodies of burning gases- like hydrogen and helium__ held together by strong gravity__
Nuclear fusion creates the energy__ and it’s all at high velocity__
As the matter is constantly converted__ into the heat and light__
The process is so spectacular__ it makes such a beautiful sight__

All kinds of electromagnetic waves__ are traveling from afar __
Visible light, microwaves, and x-rays__ come from our sun and other stars __
Ultraviolet radiation and radio waves___ bombard our Earth each day__
Many of these are dangerous _ but our ozone layer gets in their way__

[CHORUS]
There’s a constant kind of motion __ and energy happening every day__
A celestial navigation______ through a sparkling wonderland display_____
Although there is no music__ just look deeper than first glance__
There’s a huge commotion that’s constantly__ doing a cosmic flash dance__

Constellations like Virgo, Aquarius, and Orion__ are patterns of stars that are bright__
You see different ones in the northern and southern hemispheres__ on a clear night__
Meteor showers sometimes occur__ as they orbit the sun__
Dark matter floats in space__ unseen by most everyone__
The planets of our solar system__ reflect the sun’s rays as they spin__
Leaving us to wonder exactly__ how big is the universe that we’re in__
Some believe that it all started__ as a big bang like a burst__
But then that makes you wonder__ what was really there at first__

[ENDING]
With the billions of galaxies__ with planets there we can’t see__
We’d be really silly to think__ we’re the only life that can be__
If living things are somewhere out there__ we may never know if it’s true___
We can only watch that cosmic flash dance__ and just enjoy the view__
